Does anybody use fun fur yarn?
I love fun fur yarn but, i’ve heard it’s hard to use
I have used it, and, yes, it can be hard to use, especially if you have to rip it back. Stitches can be difficult to see and it is best used in garter stitch, rather than patterning (patterning gets lost in the fur). Also, eyelash type furs will have the lashes fall on the side you don’t want them to. Brush them with a hair drying brush (the kind with rounded tips on the bristles) or rake the work with your fingernails to bring the lashes through. While pretty, it isn’t a beginner’s yarn.
Help with knitting a simple shawl?
I’m still a beginner knitter. (I can do rectangles!) I’ve done scarves and blankets. I’d like to knit a shawl with some yarns I’ve collected from different places. There are seven skeins altogether of four different textures of yarn. I think I’d like to make the rows going the length of the shawl instead of the width. So the main question is: How many stitches should I cast on for a good length (I’m pretty tall)? Some of the yarn is ribbon yarn, some fancy fur, and some wool blends. I think they go together well. All suggestions most welcome. (does this sound like a word problem from math class? ;-D)
