Yarndex classifies it as a worsted weight, so I guess if you found a worsted weight yarn that was fuzzy like the La Gran mohair, you could substitute it.
I input worsted fuzzy acrylic into Yarndex, and one of the yarns it came back with was Red Heart’s “Symphony” – you may want to check into that, it would be considerably less expensive than La Gran (MSRP is $5.39 for 99g/310 yds)
